What's in a name?

“The Land of Steady Habits” is an official nickname for Connecticut. Some might think it a bit lame.

Steady Habits? Why not “Home of the repetitive and dull”?

You'd think that those of us who reside in this rectangular state with a handle would hide this sobriquet. But, not here in CBulleted Listonnecticut - state agencies list this as a nickname. Perhaps if one considers the options you might understand why this nugget remains acceptable.

Here are the possibilities for a state nickname as listed on the Connecticut State Library’s Official Nickname site (http://www.cslib.org/nicknamesCT.htm):
  • Constitution State
  • Nutmeg State
  • Provisions State

Any one of these names could strike fear in the hearts of . . . North Carolina? North Carolina, according to http://www.50states.com/bio/nickname1.htm is the only state withoout a far more acceptable.

In the mean time call me Bob On The Hill.

nickname.

The nicknames for the residents are even worse:

  • Nutmegger
  • Connecticuter
  • Connecticotian
  • or the ever popular Connecticutensian

Even as a life long Red Sox fan I find “Yankee” to be better or the vague “New Englander” to be
