Yesterday the voters spoke. Overall the conservation measure passed by 62.4 % and won in every district but one, where we tied. However if I spin this correctly I should say that we did not lose a single district.
The Builders and engineers who led the opposition have not given up. They have filed a complaint with the Secretary of State against the town and have threatened to challenge any additional enabling actions by the town council (many are still required) to additional referendums.
Their final act of desperation was floating a rumor that the Trust For Public Land rep was having an affair with the mayor. The TPL rep is around 30 and cute. The Mayor is around 50, could lose a couple of pounds and has already lost a good deal of hair. Typically, her response was analytic – there were several votes on the council and she would have to have multiple affairs. The mayor response was to tell everyone about the rumor – it was only helping his reputation.
